Academy Entry Requirements: 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English (Language or Literature) and Mathematics. Level 2 BTEC subjects count at a grade Merit or above.

What is this course about?

These qualifications are linear. Linear means that students will sit all the AS exams at the end of their AS course and all the A-level exams at the end of their A-level course. Through the in-depth study of different psychological studies, approaches and methods, students will learn content analysis and evaluation skills. Students will build a solid foundation to understanding the complexity of human behaviour and embark on the age old debate of nature vs nurture.

What content is on the course?

The A Level Psychology (AQA) content is in 4 topics:

Students will follow first year topics as outlined by the specification.

In year 2 students will study Forensic Psychology, Schizophrenia and Relationships.

There are three exam papers for psychology. Each exam paper is worth 33.3% of their final mark:

  • Paper 1 – Introductory Topics in Psychology
  • Paper 2 – Psychology in Context
  • Paper 3 – Issues and Options in Psychology

Where could this course lead?

Psychology forms the bedrock of understanding human behaviour. The course fully prepares you for studying Psychology at University. However, many students also go on to study or undertake careers in areas of science including biomedicine and neuroscience, as well as business studies, sociology, and criminology.
